About

Morgadío is the easternmost inland estate of DO Rías Baixas, located in the sub-region of Condado do Tea. It was one of the first wineries to join the Rías Baixas appellation, with most of its vineyards planted on an experimental basis before the appellation was created.

In 1984 the Morgadío farm in Condado do Tea near the village of Albeos was consolidated from multiple existing owners, and planting began. The vineyard area was gradually expanded over the years to its current 98.8 acres.

Albariño's prominence as one of the world's foremost white varieties was driven by the work done by Morgadío from the 1980s to the mid -1990s. By the 1988 harvest, Morgadío completed installation of a state-of-the-art gravity-flow facility at the bottom of their vineyard, including pneumatic presses and isothermic stainless steel tanks. Since the 1996 vintage, the Múndez family of Orense has increased investment in the winery to reach the estate's full potential, currently at 10,000 cases annually of 100% estate-bottled Albariño.
