Fillaboa Selección Finca Montealto

This estate wine is made with grapes from the winery’s highest and sunniest plot: Monte Alto. Its unique conditions: perfect south facing orientation, gravelly sandy-loam soil, slopes over 20% and unique micro-climate, award the Albario grape an excellent character. For the 2013 vintage, spring arrived early, accelerating the vine’s vegetative cycle. The fruit ripened slowly thanks to the mild summer temperatures. Balanced vines and the extraordinary weather conditions during the month of September, marked by heat and lack of rain, caused the fruit to mature perfectly. Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel vats. After fermentation, the wine was racked and then aged in stainless steel vats for a further 12 months, during which the fine lees were stirred regularly using the bâtonnage method. This resulted in the wine achieving good alcoholic strength, great acidity and an excellent sanitary state. A simply magnificent Monte Alto vintage.

Tasting Notes

Straw-yellow color with greenish hues. Clean and bright. On the nose, complex and deep. Aromas of white, tropical and citrus fruits, such as apple flesh, ripe pineapple and pink grapefruit. Reminiscent of a bakery shop and rather nutty. Mineral notes, proceeding from the soil where the grapes grew, emerge after the wine has aged for a time in the bottle. On the palate its pleasant, structured and unctuous with well-integrated acidity. Mineral notes are evident and will continue to develop the longer the wine ages in the bottle. This is an elegant, complex wine, sure to impress everyone.
