About
Señorio de Valei is located in the province of Pontevedra (Arbo), in a green area planted with vineyards along the Miño River. The family's history dates back to 1929, when a great-grandfather of today's winery, Francisco Jorge , acquired a small winery and vineyard for the enjoyment of his family and friends in Ribeira Sacra. His descendant Rogelio Jorge would eventually fall in love with Rías Baixas, and in particular with the sub-region of Condado do Tea. He founded Bodegas Señorio de Valei in 1994, with a focus on making Albariño wines from DO Baixas.
Señorío de Valei produces premium Albariño from grapes sourced in estate-owned vineyards, as well as from premier grower plots selected by the winery's technical team. The vineyards are trellised on traditional granite pergolas. Señorío de Valei uses the latest technology for production but also respects traditional processes that are less interventionist and more natural, avoiding industrial methods in favor of ecological practices. The winery continuously seeks quality improvements, allowing them to confront future challenges ranging from production and new wine releases to research (i.e. clonal selection, vine-growing and biodynamic treatments).
