Rías Baixas wines surge ahead in U.S. market
The secret is out, and Albariño is in – especially in the United States. Rías Baixas has reported growth of 13% by volume to the U.S. alone from August 31, 2020, to September 1, 2021, an all-time high. The United States is the largest export market for Albariño wines from Rías Baixas.
The appeal of Albariño wines is easy to understand. Grown in the Galicia region of northwest Spain, these crisp whites feature pronounced citrus, floral, and stone fruit notes with balanced minerality, resulting in food-friendly wines that are accessible but interesting. The uptick in U.S. sales indicates a global trend as the small, family-owned wineries of Rías Baixas continue to gain popularity and market share.
