We have great news to share from Spain! Recently we celebrated the Baco Cosecha 2019 awards organized by the Spanish Wine Tasting Union where we were the most awarded DO. We’ve also launched a new project to direct sales to consumers in Spain.

The most awarded Denomination of Origin at the Baco 2019 Awards

The wines of our DO Rías Baixas obtained 21 medals at the Baco Cosecha 2019 Awards, which makes it the most awarded DO in the young wine category by the Spanish Wine Tasting Union (Unión Española de Catadores/UEC). Rías Baixas is positioned ahead of the D.O. Rueda (9 medals), D.O. Rioja (8 medals) and the D.O. Jumilla (8).
The wines of Rías Baixas also obtained the highest distinctions in this competition: the Gran Baco de Oro Luis Hidalgo Prize and two Gran Baco de Oro (more than 92 points) of the seven awarded in total. Additionally, the wines received another 14 Gold Bacos (more than 88 points), of the 76 total, and 4 of the 28 Silver Bacos (more than 84 points).
The panel for the 34th edition of the Baco Cosecha 2019 Awards was made up of fifty tasters, all members of the UEC, including sommeliers, winemakers, purchasing managers and directors of leading publications. The evaluation is done blindly and takes place from June 23 to 26 in Madrid. With a total of 517 participating wines, the prize list – with 34 Indications of Origin awards – shows the diversity and uniqueness of the Spanish wine scene.

Rías Baixas launches a project to facilitate direct sales from wineries in Spain

In response to the post-COVID consumer climate, Rías Baixas has launched a direct sales project from its warehouses through its website. So far, more than 90 wineries have joined this initiative. View the directory of all the participating wineries at doriasbaixas.com.

This project gives Spaniards the ability to place orders from the wineries via telephone or email and is an extension of the #RíasBaixasEnCasa initiative — a program aimed to increase discovery, enjoyment and support of DO Rías Baixas during challenging times.
